Posted on 11/09/2021

Battle of the Books is beginning at Pine Lane

This is for 3rd - 6th Grade Students

Please see details below for on how your students can participate!

3rd and 4th Grade Students

My name is Aris Wilde, Dolores Beattie and I are both third grade teachers and we run Battle of the Books for 3rd and 4th grade at Pine Lane. This is a program sponsored by the Douglas County Libraries. I am emailing you because your student has expressed interest in joining Battle of the Books. Battle of the Books is a reading/trivia competition between schools based on ten chosen books by the Battle of the Books program.  The students read all ten books and compete against other 3rd and 4th grade students from different schools around the district to see who knows more about the ten books.  These competitions take place at the Parker Library.  I have attached some information about Battle in this email.

If we do win at the district level, we receive a trophy as a school.  The farthest we have gotten as a school since Mrs. Beattie and I have been doing the program is either quarter or semi finals.  Hopefully this year we can go all the way to the championship round!

Our first meeting for Battle of the Books will be Wednesday, November 17, at 8am in the south campus library.  We are planning on doing weekly meetings on Wednesday mornings unless there is a staff meeting.  At this first meeting, we will be discussing Battle of the Books, how the competitions work, rules of the game, and the different books that would need to be read.  This is completely optional for your student to join.

Here is the list of books for this year's Battle of the Books competition.

Please let Mrs. Beattie or myself know if you have any further questions about Battle of the Books.  We would love to have your student join us on Wednesday mornings!
